One Chinese Word Per Day

Every morning, one Chinese word worth knowing

One real, useful and funny Chinese word to your inbox every morning

If you’ve tried learning Chinese, this might sound familiar:

  • You want to learn Chinese… but never stick to it

  • Learning apps feel like studying

  • There are too many resources, and you don’t know where to start

  • You learn words, but still don’t sound natural

  • Native speakers say things you’ve never seen before

So I made something simpler

Just one Chinese word a day.
Delivered to your inbox.
Takes less than a minute.

No pressure.
No decision fatigue.
No “I’ll start tomorrow.”

What it looks like

Word of the Day: 什么鬼 (shén me guǐ)
Literal: “What ghost?”
Actual meaning: “What the hell?”
Used when something is confusing or makes no sense.Example:
这是什么鬼剧情 → What is this plot even??

It all came from this story:

One of my friends once told me:“I really want to learn Chinese… but I just can’t stick to it.”Not because she wasn’t interested —
but because starting always felt like effort.
And honestly, I felt the same.So I thought:
what if learning didn’t require you to start at all?
What if it just… showed up?

Hi, I’m Via.
I grew up in China, and I’ve always found it funny how some everyday Chinese expressions don’t translate well but make perfect sense to native speakers.
This started as a small project to share those little language moments.

Try it.
Get your first word tomorrow.
